The Ocean Wave Healing Guide

For the Hardest Season of Your Life

This guide is written for you. Not for the version of you that is trying to calm the waves. For who you actually are in this moment, moved by forces larger than logic, cresting and falling in ways you cannot fully predict or control.

You do not have to be still right now. But you do have to read this slowly.

Before You Begin

The Ocean Wave type heals differently from other types. You do not need more emotional expression. You do not need someone to validate how much you feel. You already feel everything at full volume. That is part of the problem.

What you need is permission. Permission to move with your grief rather than against it. Permission to trust your own natural cycles of intensity and calm. Permission to stop frightening yourself with the size of what you feel.

This guide is that permission.

How the Ocean Wave Type Reacts to Pain

When an Ocean Wave type loses love, the first response is not quiet. It is surge.

The grief arrives in waves. Sometimes you are calm, almost fine, and then without warning something rises and you are completely submerged. A song. A place. A time of day. A scent. And the wave is total.

Between the waves, you feel guilty for the calm. As if feeling okay for a moment means you did not love deeply enough. And then the next wave arrives and takes you completely by surprise all over again.

Underneath this cycle, something important is happening. Your system is processing at the depth that it feels. The Ocean Wave type cannot grieve at the surface. Everything goes all the way down. And what goes all the way down takes time to return.

You are not out of control. You are processing at full depth.

The ocean does not apologise for its waves. The wave does not rush itself toward the shore. It arrives exactly when it arrives, with exactly the force it carries, and recedes in its own time. This is your nature. And it is not a flaw.

The 7 Healing Practices for the Ocean Wave Type

Practice 1: The Wave Riding Practice

Every morning, before you begin the day, check in with the current state of your emotional ocean.

Is it a high tide morning, powerful, present, close to the surface? Or a low tide morning, quieter, more withdrawn, further from shore?

Do not judge which it is. Simply name it. And then make one small decision about how to honour that state today rather than fight it.

The Ocean Wave type heals when they move with their cycles rather than against them. This practice builds the awareness that makes that possible. Do this for 21 days without skipping.

Practice 2: The Depth Inventory

Write down three layers of what you are grieving.

The surface layer: what you have told others you are feeling.

The middle layer: what you have admitted to yourself privately.

The deepest layer: what has not yet had words, the feeling beneath the feeling, the grief you have not yet fully touched.

The Ocean Wave type processes at extraordinary depth but often stays at the surface in their expression. This practice is an invitation to go all the way down. What lives at the deepest layer is where the real healing waits.

Practice 3: The Ocean Wave Rest Practice

The ocean is not always in surge. Between waves, there is a moment of perfect stillness when the water is neither coming nor going. That moment, brief as it is, is where the ocean gathers its next movement.

Each day, find one 20-minute window in the calm between your waves. Not to process. Not to feel more. Simply to exist in the still water between one surge and the next.

The Ocean Wave type is often so attuned to their own movement that stillness feels wrong. This practice teaches you that the calm is not absence. It is gathering.

Practice 4: The Ground Practice

The Ocean Wave type can be swept away by the intensity of their own feeling. In grief, the waves can feel so powerful that there is no stable ground beneath them.

Each day, find one physical act of grounding. Bare feet on the floor. Both hands pressed flat against a solid surface. A slow walk where you feel every step.

This is not about suppressing the wave. It is about having ground to return to when the wave recedes. The ocean is most powerful when it knows where the shore is.

Practice 5: The Cycle Journal

The Ocean Wave type's grief does not follow a linear path. It moves in cycles, rising and falling, sometimes more intense, sometimes quieter, in ways that can feel chaotic and unpredictable.

Begin keeping a simple daily note: one sentence about the tide today. High, low, or somewhere between.

Over weeks, you will begin to see your own pattern. The triggers that raise the tide. The conditions that allow for calm. The length of your natural cycles.

When you understand your own pattern, the unpredictability becomes less frightening. You are not at the mercy of the waves. You are learning to read the ocean.

Practice 6: The Expression Practice

The Ocean Wave type needs to express emotion in forms that match its depth. Words in conversation are often not enough. The feeling is too large for ordinary language.

This week, find one form of expression that can hold the full size of what you feel. Write something long and unedited. Move to music with full intensity. Speak aloud to no one, just letting the words come without structure.

Do not edit for coherence. Do not manage for the comfort of an audience. Let the wave reach shore at full height.

The Ocean Wave type heals profoundly through expression that is as large as what they carry.

Practice 7: The Letter to Your Future Self

Write a letter to yourself one year from today. Tell her what the waves felt like right now. Tell her what you hope she has stopped being frightened of. Tell her what you hope she has learned to trust about her own depth.

End the letter with these words: By the time you read this, I hope you finally know that the size of your feeling was never the problem. It was always the measure of how fully you were alive.

Seal it. Keep it somewhere. Open it in one year.

How the Ocean Wave Type Finds Their Ikigai

Ikigai is not a destination you arrive at. It is a living recognition of where your deepest gifts meet the world's genuine need. For the Ocean Wave type, it is already moving through everything you feel and everything you touch.

Your Ikigai Lives in the Emotional Depth Others Cannot Access Alone

You have a rare and specific gift. You can go to depths of feeling that most people cannot reach on their own. You help others access their own emotional truth simply by being willing to go there yourself. You create permission for depth by embodying it. These are not personality traits. They are skills. The world has an endless need for exactly this kind of emotional courage and depth. Your Ikigai will almost always involve helping others feel more fully, process more completely, or access the emotional truth that has been living beneath the surface of their lives.

Your Ikigai is Discovered Through Depth Moments

Start keeping a simple note on your phone called Depth Moments. Every time a conversation goes somewhere real, every time you help someone access something they had not been able to reach, every time your emotional depth creates something meaningful, write it down.

Over weeks and months, a pattern will emerge. The same kinds of connection, the same depth of impact, the same emotional territory returning again and again. That pattern is your Ikigai showing you where to go.

Your Ikigai is Sustained by Finding Your Shore

The Ocean Wave type gives from an enormous reservoir but needs regular return to what grounds and restores them. Without that return, the giving becomes depletion and the waves become destructive rather than generative.

Your Ikigai is only sustainable when you build as much restoration into your life as expression. Time in nature, especially near water. Creative output. Solitude of the deep rather than the performing kind. These are not indulgences. They are the conditions under which your gift remains available and alive.

What Becomes Possible When You Find Your Ikigai

You stop fearing your own depth.

When your life is aligned with your Ikigai, you stop experiencing your emotional intensity as something that needs to be managed or apologised for. It becomes the precise instrument through which your most important work is done.

Your relationships transform.

You stop attracting people who are overwhelmed by your depth and start attracting people who are drawn to it. Your love becomes a shared ocean rather than one person drowning and one person pulling them to shore.

Your grief becomes your greatest gift.

Everything you have been through, the unpredictable waves, the terrifying depths, the cycles of surge and stillness, becomes the exact map that helps someone else navigate their own emotional ocean without being consumed by it.

You feel at home in yourself.

Not every day. Not perfectly. But there will be moments when a wave arrives and instead of being frightened you simply breathe and let it move through you, knowing it will recede, knowing you will remain, knowing the depth is yours and it is safe.

That feeling is Ikigai. And it is already moving toward you.

A Daily Rhythm for the Ocean Wave Type

Morning: Name the tide. High, low, or between. One sentence. No judgment.

Midday: One physical act of grounding. Feet on the floor. Hands on something solid. Breath all the way down.

Evening: One act of expression that matches the full size of what you felt today. Let it out completely.

Weekly: One hour of deep restoration. Near water if possible. Full silence. Just you and the depth of yourself.

Some journeys change the way you see the world. This is one of them.

You Have Read Your Truth. Now Take One Step Toward It.

In 30 minutes, I will help you see exactly where your Ikigai begins after this loss. What is still yours. What is worth rebuilding. And how to start.
